Dazhao Temple is located in the south of the old city of Hohhot. It was built in 1580 and is the earliest temple built in Hohhot. According to reports, Alatan Khan of the Tumote tribe decided to build a second city temple soon after he built Meidaizhao.

With the support of the Ming Dynasty court, construction officially started in the seventh year of Wanli (1579 AD). The existing buildings in Dazhao include the mountain gate, the Guo Hall, the Sutra Hall, the Jiujian Tower and the Buddhist Hall. Among them, the Sutra Hall and the Buddhist Hall are closely connected and are commonly known as the main hall. There are statues and murals in the Buddhist Hall. The silver Buddha statue has experienced four hundred years of vicissitudes and is still well preserved.
