Tongli is subordinate to Wujiang District, Suzhou City, Jiangsu Province. It is located on the bank of the Taihu Lake Lake, east of the ancient canal, surrounded by eight lakes (Tongli, Jiuli, Chenghu, Muzhuang, Baiyan, Yeze, Nanxing, Pangshan Lake). The town is divided into seven small islands by 15 small rivers in the shape of a river, and 49 ancient bridges connect the small islands into a whole. The buildings stand along the water, famous for "small bridges, flowing water and people's homes". It is an ancient town with relatively complete preservation in Jiangsu Province, and also a key cultural relics protection unit in Jiangsu Province. It has been listed as one of the thirteen scenic spots of the Taihu Lake Lake, and is now a 5A scenic spot in China.

The picturesque and quaint town of Tongli is known as the "Little Venice of the East" due to its fertile water fields, abundant resources, outstanding talents, and unique terrain. The characteristics of Tongli lie in the abundance of Ming and Qing architecture, the abundance of small bridges in water towns, and the abundance of famous figures and scholars. There are 38 Ming and Qing dynasty garden houses, 47 temples and shrines, as well as hundreds of aristocratic and wealthy residences and former residences of celebrities in the town. The ancient town originally had more than 20 natural landscapes, including the "Front Eight Scenic Spots", "Back Eight Scenic Spots", and "Continued Four Scenic Spots". Today, there are still various scenic spots such as "Watching the Moon in Dongxi", "Morning Smoke in Nanshi", "Spring View of Beishan", "Fishing Flute in Shuicun", and "Lancui in Changshan".
