When the people's commune was realized in November 1958, Ningxiang was merged into the county, and Qantong was changed into a production unit. In 1968, the Qiantong Commune Revolutionary Committee was established. In April 1981, the Qiantong Commune Management Committee was elected. In May 1984, the name was restored to Qiantong Township, and it was renamed in February 1987.
